Detailed Itinerary for 14 Days Explore Kenya Tanzania and Zanzibar Safari
Day 1: Arrival
Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met at the airport and transported to your accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, you can join a Nairobi city tour that includes a visit to the Giraffe Centre and feeding giraffes! Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Drive to Amboseli national park, Game Drive
Drive Time: Approx. 3.5 hours
After breakfast, you will go to Amboseli National Park, which is approximately four hours distant. With your packed lunch boxes, you will go on an introduction game drive through Amboseli National Park to witness animal species such as elephant herds, buffaloes, lions, zebras, and many more. You will also experience views of Mt Kilimanjaro on your route to your resort for check-in, supper, and overnight stay.
Day 3: Full day in Amboseli national park, Optional Walking Safari
Your full-day adventure safari in Amboseli National Park will begin with breakfast at your lodge, after which your guide will drive you around the national park’s wilderness in search of various wildlife species such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, gazelles, kudu, giraffes, elands, and various birds.
After lunch, you will go on a guided walking safari to see more animals and take photos of the gorgeous sunset with Mt Kilimanjaro in the background. Following that, enjoy another evening game drive before returning to your lodge for dinner and sleep as previously stated.
Day 4: Drive to Lake Nakuru national park, Game Drive
You will eat breakfast at your camp or lodge, then check out of the lodge with a packed lunch and continue your drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, passing along the rift valley escarpment while admiring the breathtaking nature surrounding you. You will go on an en route game drive and witness animals such as giraffes, rhinos, gazelles, buffalos, antelopes, reedbucks, elands, and impalas, among others.
You will proceed on a game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park and explore the flamingo-filled Lake Nakuru, which is a great birding destination with flocks of flamingos around the lake shoreline as well as other bird and mammal species grazing in the neighboring plains.
You will be driven to your lodge after your game drive. Check in, relax as you wait for your dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Drive to Maasai Mara national reserve, Game Drive
Following breakfast at the lodge, proceed to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. As you travel to the resort for supper and lodging, keep an eye out for wildlife species such as the African big five (lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, buffalos), as well as smaller game.
Day 6: Full Day at Maasai Mara national reserve, Maasai Cultural Tour
You will have an early breakfast at your lodge before heading out for wildlife watching on the reserve’s vast savannah plains. You will look for a range of animal species, including the big five (lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos), as well as giraffes, elephants, wildebeest, elands, zebras, and topis.
After your morning game drive, you will eat your lunch while taking in the stunning surroundings of the reserve and watching animal species graze on the plains. After lunch, you will go on a Maasai cultural tour, where you will learn about one of Africa’s most prominent tribes and civilizations. Proceed to your lodge for supper and sleep, as described above.
Day 7: Transfer from Maasai Mara to Serengeti National Park
You will have a very early breakfast and leave the resort early in the morning. You will be driven from the reserve to the boundary of Isebania.
You will cross customs at the border, and then your guide in Tanzania will transport you to Serengeti National Park. You will have a game drive to the lodge for supper and stay. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Morning Game Drive in Serengeti National Park, Relaxed afternoon
After breakfast at your lodge, your guide will take you on a morning game viewing excursion through the vast savannah plains of Serengeti National Park, where you will look for wildlife species such as the big five, wildebeests, hippos, elands, impalas, kudu, waterbucks, zebras, gazelles, giraffes, and predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs, among others.
You will have lunch at the camp and spend the remainder of the day resting. Opt for a late afternoon game drive in the national park to look for different animal species, and your guide will transport you to your lodge for supper and an overnight stay, as described above.
Day 9: Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Olduvai Gorge
You will have breakfast before departing Serengeti National Park and going to your next animal watching site, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. With your packed lunch, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you will explore the Ol Duvai Gorge for a history lecture. Enjoy a wildlife drive around the reserve area before heading to your lodge for check-in and an overnight stay.
Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater Drive, Maasai Bomas Visit
After breakfast, pack your lunch and go out for a full-day game drive in the crater. You will drop 600 meters into the crater, which is home to a variety of animal species, including the big five (lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinos, and elephants). Other animal species found in Ngorongoro include hyenas, wildebeests, antelopes, cheetahs, zebras, hippos, waterbucks, and warthogs, among others.
There are also many bird species that may be seen around Ngorongoro Crater, such as ostriches and flamingos that live along the shores of Lake Magadi. After your game drive around the Ngorongoro Crater, you will visit a Maasai Bomas to mingle with the people before returning to your lodge for supper and stay as described above.
Day 11: Drive to Arusha and Flight to Zanzibar
You will have breakfast at the lodge or camp before traveling to Arusha, where you will be dropped off and flown to Zanzibar.
You will be picked up at the airport and transported to your hotel for check-in. Relax at the hotel as you wait for supper and an overnight stay.
Day 12: Prison Island, Spice Tour and Stone Town
You will have breakfast at your accommodation and then begin your day’s activities.
You will take a Stone Town tour and explore the town’s alleyways while learning about Zanzibar’s history and many cultures. You will board a private boat from Stone Town to Changuu Island, commonly known as Prison Island, where you will observe giant tortoises and snorkel. You will take a boat from Changuu Island to Stone town.
On this day, you will also have a spice tour around the plantations, where you will view several exotic spices and learn about their applications, such as cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Following the spice tour, you will return to your accommodation to unwind and spend the night.
Day 13: Zanzibar Beach Experience
You will get a day to unwind on Zanzibar’s beautiful sand beaches and enjoy the views of the Indian Ocean.
Day 14: Departure
You will eat breakfast at your accommodation before being transferred to the airport for your return flight, which will bring your safari to a conclusion.
