This 5 days moutain gorilla, lowland gorilla and dian fossey offers a double gorilla trekking, encopassing both lowland gorilla and mountain gorilla then yet another thrilling experience of hiking dian fossey grave. to view the grave of the american zoologist and climatologist who was murdered while doing her duty.
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Our guide will meet you at your lodge/hotel in Kigali, brief you about your upcoming safari before transferring to Volcanoes National Park. There is an optional tour of Kigali city you can opt for before transferring to volcanoes national park, home of the mountain gorillas. Overnight at Dinner at Muhabura Hotel (Budget).
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking
Early in the morning after your breakfast, you will take a short drive to the Headquarters of Volcanoes National Park where you will be briefed by the park warden about the gorilla trekking activity. Gorilla trekking is a very interesting activity, which can last between 2-3 hours. The terrain is rough and at times muddy therefore the hikers have to be physically fit. Upon meeting the gorillas, you will stay with them for 1 hour before heading back to your accommodation for lunch and in the afternoon you will take a community walk around neighboring communities of the forest. Interact with the local people; learn about their way of living.
Day 3: Transfer to Bukavu – DR Congo
Wake up early for your breakfast at your hotel, and hit the road with your tour guide driving to Cyangugu border to cross to DR Congo. You will visit the national museum in Butare, the king’s palace in Nyanza and the genocide site and en-route lunch in Butare, the second largest city after Kigali. You will have clear views of Lake Kivu, Rwanda’s largest fresh water lake. Reach in the evening for dinner and overnight at Orchards Safari Club/Hotel Horizon (Budget).
Day 4: Lowland Gorilla Tracking
You will wake up early to go for your second gorilla trekking, the lowland gorillas of the DR Congo are found in Kahuzi Biega national park. You will also go for the routine briefing and thereafter proceed for the memorable adventure of tracking the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National park. The lowland Gorillas stay in bigger families as compared to mountain gorillas. After tracking, you will transfer to Ruhengeri crossing through Cyangugu boarder and arriving Ruhengeri late evening. Dinner and overnight stay at Muhabura Hotel.
Day 5: Diann Fossey Trekking & Transfer to Kigali
You will have early morning breakfast and drive to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing and set out for Dian Fossey trekking. The activity lasts about 8 hours with a more challenging terrain than gorilla trekking.
Return to Muhabura to freshen up and transfer to Kigali arriving in the evening. Drop-off at the airport for your onward flight.
