Detailed Itinerary for 10 Days Tanzania and Kenya Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Moshi, where you will find your driver waiting for you. Transfer to your hotel in Arusha, where you will spend your afternoon or evening resting and preparing for your adventure, which starts next week. There are optional activities that you can do upon your arrival in Arusha, which include a visit to a local coffee plantation or taking a short city tour to get a feel for Tanzania’s cultural heritage.

Dinner will be served at your lodge.

Day 2: Transfer to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park, which is known for its massive baobab trees and large elephant herds. Enjoy your first game drive en route to your lodge. Wildlife sightings may include giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and lions. Tarangire National Park is especially famous for its seasonal concentration of animals along the Tarangire River. Overnight stay at your lodge or tented camp inside or near the park.

Day 3: Transfer to Lake Manyara National Park

Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a smaller but diverse park nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Known for its tree-climbing lions and flocks of flamingos, the park offers varied habitats including forest, grassland, and lake shore. Enjoy a full day game drive and look out for elephants, hippos, and baboons. Return to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park

Depart early for Serengeti National Park, passing through the famed Ngorongoro highlands. Stop for scenic views and possibly visit a Maasai village to learn about traditional pastoralist life. Continue into the Serengeti plains, one of the world’s most famous wildlife destinations. Begin your game drive as soon as you enter the park. Overnight and dinner at your lodge or tented camp inside the park.

Day 5: Full-day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park

Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti. Depending on the season, you may witness the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebras move across the plains. Even outside migration season, Serengeti National Park offers excellent predator sightings, including lions, leopard and cheetahs. An optional sunrise hot air balloon safari offers a breathtaking aerial perspective. Dinner and overnight stay inside the park.

Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Enjoy a morning game drive before heading toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Arrive at the crater rim by afternoon and get a chance to explore the crater, which is actually a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most unique ecosystems. Relax at your lodge with panoramic views over the crater floor. Head back to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater Drive and Transfer Back to Arusha- Fly to Nairobi, Kenya (Road Transfer option is available)

Descend into the crater early for a half-day game drive in the crater area. The crater is home to a dense population of wildlife, including black rhinos, lions, elephants, and flamingos. After the safari, return to Arusha and transfer to the airport for your flight to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where our driver will pick you up and drive you to your hotel. Overnight stay in Nairobi. (If you don’t wish to fly to Nairobi, you can choose to drive from Ngorongoro to Maasai Mara, although this will be a long drive, taking approximately the entire day.)

Day 8: Transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve.

After breakfast, travel to the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve by road. The Maasai Mara is Kenya’s top safari destination and part of the greater Serengeti ecosystem. Arrive in time to have lunch at your lodge or tented camp and later have an afternoon game drive. Expect to see an abundance of wildlife in the park, including the highly sought-after Big Five.

Dinner will be served at your lodge or camp.

Day 9: Full Day Game Drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Spend the day exploring the Maasai Mara. Enjoy full-day game drives in the park to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities. If visiting between July and October, you may witness river crossings during the Great Migration. You can also visit a Maasai village to learn about their customs and traditions. Optional activities include guided bush walks or another hot air balloon safari. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge or camp.

Day 10: Maasai Mara to Nairobi and Departure

Enjoy a final early morning game drive in the park before returning to Nairobi. Depending on your departure time, you may visit a local market or enjoy a visit to a cultural center. Transfer to the airport for your international flight home, concluding your 10 Days Tanzania and Kenya Safari!
