Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Uganda Gorilla Trek and Mount Sabyinyo Hiking Safari.

Day 1: Pickup from Entebbe International Airport.

After arriving at Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport and completing all necessary formalities, you will be greeted by our safari guide, who will then transport you to your overnight accommodation. Depending on when you arrive, you may opt to embark on a sunset cruise on Lake Victoria, which begins late in the afternoon in Entebbe and takes you by boat out to the equator or nearby islands to see the sun set over the horizon. Watch the fisherman cast their nets while enjoying the refreshments and drinks available on board.

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Following an early breakfast, you will begin your picturesque tour of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Before heading to Bwindi, you will stop near the Equator for photographs and then eat lunch on the way. Then, travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is home to endangered mountain gorillas and is located in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. Its mist-covered mountains are coated by one of Uganda’s oldest and most ecologically varied rainforests, dating back over 25,000 years and home to around 400 plant species.

More notably, this “impenetrable forest” harbors an estimated 400 mountain gorillas, or approximately half of the world’s population, including three habituated groups that can be followed. There are 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift indigenous bird species, including the Blue-throated Broadbill, bar-tailed Trogon, and other lovely woodland birds.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Following an early breakfast at your accommodation, you will go to the park headquarters to meet with expert local ranger rangers and trackers who will teach you about gorilla trekking protocol.

After that, go gorilla trekking in the forest with a professional ranger who will teach you interesting information about the flora and wildlife as well as the gorillas’ lifestyle. Trekking with mountain gorillas is one of the most exhilarating wildlife experiences; while the walk is physically taxing, the beauty of the forest and surrounding environment makes it worthwhile.

Mountain Gorillas

The hike will take between 2 and 6 hours, but it is definitely worth the effort. Instead of doing gorilla trekking, you might take a guided woodland walk through Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. A forest walk in Bwindi provides tourists with the unique experience of a natural virgin forest, pleasant sounds of birds singing in the trees, and intimate encounters with wild creatures like as baboons, among others.

After your gorilla trek and lunch, you will embark on about a 1-2 hour’s drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park where you will check-in at the lodge. Later retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Hike Mount Sabyinyo

Today, you will begin your journey to the top of Mount Sabyinyo, a Virunga Volcano whose summit is only accessible from the park. The peak of the mountain, at 3,645 meters (11,959 feet), marks the convergence of the boundaries of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda, and Uganda. The slopes of Mt. Sabyinyo provide habitat for critically endangered mountain gorillas.

You will notice the harsh character of the landscape along the Sabyinyo hills, which include many craters and jagged peaks. The Mount Sabyinyo hike is a one-day hike that takes 4 hours to the peak and 4 hours back, depending on speed and weather conditions. Walking sticks are given for free, and porters are available for rent. You will pass through vegetation ranging from the bamboo zone to 2400 – 2800 meters. After rising to its park, take some break and eat your prepared lunch. Begin down the mountain. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer Back to Entebbe and Departure

Following breakfast and leisure at the lodge, you will drive/fly back to Kampala/Entebbe for drop-off at the hotel or airport, bringing your 5 Day Uganda Gorilla Trek and Mt Sabyinyo Hiking Safari to a close.
