Detailed Itinerary for 9 Days Rwanda and Kenya Family Safari.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda
Upon your arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be met by our company representative and briefed about your tour. Transfer to your hotel for relaxation and later have dinner. Depending on your flight arrival times, you can take a tour of Kigali city and visit the Genocide memorial center, camp Kigali, Inema Arts center and Caplaki craft village among others.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After having breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, you will start your journey to Volcanoes national park. If you didn’t do the city tour on your day of arrival; you will get to do it today morning and later drive to Volcanoes National Park.
Have lunch and transfer to Musanze – the nearest town to Volcanoes National Park found in the northern province of Rwanda. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
You will enjoy early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and bottled drinking water for briefing by the park ranger guides at 7:00am. After briefing, you will start your gorilla trekking journey accompanied by the ranger guides in search of the mountain gorillas; this takes 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas.
However, the guides will try to find them from where they were last seen the previous day! You will spend 1 hour with these gentle giants and later return to your lodge to refresh and relax. In the evening, you can do a community tour at Ibyi’wacu village tour for a Rwanda cultural experience. Dinner and overnight stay as above.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe- Visit King’s Palace and Butare Museum
Breakfast will be served early and embark on the drive to Nyungwe forest national park with a stopover at the King’s palace in Nyanza and national museum in Butare. You will also have a stopover lunch en-route. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking and Canopy Walk
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are the easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3-6 hours or more depending on their location. Have your packed lunch and then head back to base.
Later you will also engage in a canopy walk and enjoy views of the rainforest from a swing bridge. After the canopy walk, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Flight to Nairobi
After breakfast at your lodge, you will proceed to Kigali for your flight to Nairobi. Your guide in Nairobi will welcome you, brief you about your safari and drive you to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Transfer to Masai Mara National Park
You will be picked up by your guide who will meet you and welcome you and brief you about your safari. After briefing, you will proceed to Masai Mara national Reserve with a stop in Narok town for a cultural visit to the famed Maasai Bomas where you will get to interact with the lovely Maasai people and learn more about their beautiful culture.
You will proceed to Masai Mara national reserve for an evening game drive where you will search for the various wildlife species such as a large concentration of predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, impalas among others. After the game drive, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Full day game drives in Masai Mara
You will have an early breakfast at your lodge ahead of a full day of wildlife viewing. After breakfast, you will drive around the Masai Mara national reserve where you will search for various wildlife species such as wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, impalas, gazelles, giraffes, waterbucks, hippos among others.
After lunch, you will engage in another game drive in Masai Mara national reserve as you search for the different wildlife species and later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight as above.
Day 9: Transfer Back to Nairobi
After your breakfast, bid farewell to Masai Mara and head back to Nairobi city where you will be dropped off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta international airport.
