This 9 days Rwanda and Kenya Family Safari is the perfect vacation package if you are travelling with family and friends. During these 9 days Rwanda and Kenya safari, you will encounter habituated mountain gorillas during a gorilla trekking excursion in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will then fly to Nairobi and transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve for classic game drives as you explore the vast savannah plains and wildlife in the park.
Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our company representative and briefed about your tour. Transfer to your hotel for relaxation and later have dinner. Depending on your flight arrival time, you can take a tour of Kigali city and visit the Genocide Memorial Center, Camp Kigali, Inema Arts Center, and Caplaki Craft Village, among others.
After having breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, you will start your journey to Volcanoes National Park. If you didn’t do the city tour on your day of arrival, you will get to do it this morning and later drive to Volcanoes National Park.
Have lunch and transfer to Musanze – the nearest town to Volcanoes National Park, found in the northern province of Rwanda. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
You will enjoy an early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and bottled drinking water for briefing by the park ranger guides at 7:00 am. After briefing, you will start your gorilla trekking journey accompanied by the ranger guides in search of the mountain gorillas; this takes 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas.
However, the guides will try to find them from where they were last seen the previous day! You will spend 1 hour with these gentle giants and later return to your lodge to refresh and relax. In the evening, you can do a community tour at Ibyi’wacu village for a Rwandan cultural experience. Dinner and overnight stay as above.
Breakfast will be served early, and you will embark on the drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park with a stopover at the King’s Palace in Nyanza and the National Museum in Butare. You will also have a stopover lunch en route. Dinner and overnight stay.
Enjoy breakfast and attend a briefing before entering the forest to search for the active, playful fellows in Nyungwe Forest. The Chimpanzees are easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3-6 hours or more, depending on their location. Have your packed lunch and then head back to base.
Later, you will also engage in a canopy walk and enjoy views of the rainforest from a swing bridge. After the canopy walk, you will return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast at your lodge, you will proceed to Kigali for your flight to Nairobi. Your guide in Nairobi will welcome you, brief you about your safari, and drive you to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
You will be picked up by your guide, who will meet you, welcome you, and brief you about your safari. After briefing, you will proceed to Masai Mara National Reserve with a stop in Narok town for a cultural visit to the famed Maasai Bomas, where you will get to interact with the lovely Maasai people and learn more about their beautiful culture.
You will proceed to Maasai Mara National Reserve for an evening game drive where you will search for various wildlife species such as a large concentration of predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, impalas, among others. After the game drive, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
You will have an early breakfast at your lodge ahead of a full day of wildlife viewing. After breakfast, you will drive around the Masai Mara National Reserve where you will search for various wildlife species such as wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, impalas, gazelles, giraffes, waterbucks, hippos, among others.
After lunch, you will engage in another game drive in Masai Mara National Reserve as you search for the different wildlife species and later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight as above.
After your breakfast, bid farewell to Masai Mara and head back to Nairobi city, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
