Detailed Itinerary for 3 Days Rwanda Gorillas and Chimpanzee Trekking Safari
Day 1: Pickup from Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park for Gorilla Trekking
Early in the morning, after breakfast and transfer to Volcanoes National Park, leaving Kigali by 4 am. Arrive at the park headquarters at 7 am for a briefing from the RDB officials, and set off for the gorilla trekking. This experience of gorilla trekking is a once in a life time adventure. The rangers will lead you deep into the forest in search of the Gorillas.
You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures whose company you will cherish for 1 hour. The activity in Rwanda can take 3-5 hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas.
After your gorilla trek experience, you have lunch and then visit Ibyi’wacu Village for a cultural experience where you will take a tour of the former king’s palace, dress in traditional attire and learn more about Rwanda’s interesting cultural heritage.
Later, drive to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park- Visit Gisakura Tea Estate
Breakfast will be served early, and you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park with lunch en route. You will also pay a visit to Gisakura tea estate, where you will take a tour of the vast tea estate and also learn how tea is grown and processed. Don’t be shy to purchase some tea bags as a show of support to the local community. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trek and Drive Back to Kigali
Enjoy breakfast and go for a briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest usually takes about 4-6 hours or more, depending on the location of the chimpanzees. You will then have your packed lunch and later return back to base, where you will meet up with your driver guide.
Later meet up with your guide and drive back to Kigali where you will be dropped of at a hotel of your choice or Kigali international airport.
