5 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trek and Wildlife Safari

After breakfast, you will be met by our company representative in Rwanda who will pick you up from your hotel, brief you about this 5 days Rwanda Gorilla Trek and Wildlife Safari.  Set off from your hotel and embark on a tour of Kigali city, where you will be visiting the genocide memorial center, museum, Kimironko market, and craft shops. Other optional places that you can visit include: Inema Arts Centre, Richard Kandt House, and Nyamirambo Women’s Center, among others.

You will have your lunch at a restaurant in Kigali city before proceeding on your 3 hours’ drive to Volcanoes National Park. Upon your arrival in Musanze, check into your lodge/hotel and spend the rest of your evening relaxing and preparing for your gorilla trek the next day.

If you wish to explore more, you can choose to do an optional tour to Ibyi’wacu Village, which is situated outside the park headquarters in Kinigi. The cultural village, which is also known as the “Gorilla Guardians Village,” is one of the most visited cultural heritage sites in Rwanda. You will get to visit the former king’s palace, dress in traditional Rwandan attire, and take part in cultural practices such as the Bride’s walk, among others.

Dinner will be served at your lodge.

Have your breakfast early in the morning before setting off to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will be briefed on the rules and regulations to follow for your gorilla trekking experience. You will then be assigned to a gorilla group with other trekkers and a park ranger, plus a guide.

Trekking mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park can take anywhere between 2 and 5 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Once you have finally located your gorilla family, you will get to spend a quality hour with these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. Make sure to have your cameras ready for this special time, as you don’t want to miss a single moment.

After your gorilla trek, have your packed lunch and return to the base, where you will meet up with your driver guide. Head back to your lodge and refresh yourself. If you don’t want to carry a packed lunch from your lodge in the morning, carry your snacks, and then later, after your trek, you will return to your lodge for a hot lunch.

Dinner will be served later in the evening at your lodge.

Enjoy your breakfast at leisure and later on check out of the lodge. You will then embark on your journey to Akagera National Park, where you will arrive in time to check into your lodge and have lunch. After you have had lunch and rested, you will embark on a game drive in the park where you will get a chance to spot several savannah wildlife animals such as lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, elephants, rhinos, antelopes, and many more. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

On Day 4 of your 5 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trek and Wildlife Safari, you will head out for a morning game drive in the northern part of the park, which has a wide variety of wildlife, giving you a great chance to spot the Big Five, including Lions, the elusive leopard, rhinos, cape buffaloes, and savannah elephants. Also, look out for other wildlife animals like antelopes, impalas, Sitatunga, and giraffes, among others. Upon your request, you can have us arrange a bush breakfast for you at a serene location in the park. (Prior booking will be required at least a day before.

Later, return to your lodge for lunch and rest for a while. Later in the afternoon, you will head out for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Explore the lake and its surroundings with great sightings for bird species such as the African eagles, Kingfishers, Herons, Egrets, and Cormorants, to mention a few.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

After having your breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on your return journey to Kigali. As you exit the park, you will get to view wildlife one last time. Make sure to keep your eyes out for any wildlife that you might not have seen on your previous game drives in the park.

Upon your arrival in Kigali, you will have lunch and then be dropped off at a hotel of your choice or Kigali International Airport, marking the end of the safari.
