THE SITUATION OF COVID-19 IN UGANDA 2021

The situation of covid-19 in Uganda 2021, has left a number of people in the country having fear in the society because of the increasing numbers of covid-19 amidst the standard operating procedures in the country to ensure that the locals are safe from the corona virus. It should be noted that after Uganda confirmed her first case of covid-19 in March 2020 there was an increase of the number of cases of covid-19 in Uganda and also a number of standard operating procedures to ensure that they are protected against the virus and in the bid to get things back to normal and to fight against the virus that has killed over 2 million people in the world.

With a number of travellers that visit the country for visits, business trips, tourism activities like gorilla trekking in Uganda, game drives in queen Elizabeth national park, lion tracking, golden monkey trekking, hiking the Virunga mountains among other activities have contributed to the situation of covid-19 in Uganda in a way that they have either increased the number of sick patients, they have also contributed to the tightening of safety measures carried out

Confirmed cases

As of 27 may 2021, a total of 4,327 travellers entering the country through Entebbe international airport from category 1 and 2 that have undergone mandatory covi-19 pcr test, 50 people tested positive and they were taken under government quarantine and isolation units to avoid spreading the virus to other travellers and the locals in case they reach their designated isolation facilities.

The confirmed cases were from tourists from united Arab emirates who were 16 in number, South Sudan 15, kenya, 6, united states of America 6 Eritrea 3 ethiopia2 south Africa 1 and Netherlands 1 all of these that are in category 2 countries that have the new b.1.1.7 covid-19 variant but with earlier detection, it has enabled the country to identify them fast in order to easily treat the virus before it spreads to other people increasing the number of people. Uganda has about 40,734 Cases with 15,147 recovered patients and 334 deaths in 2021 and this has made the country to tighten their standard operating procedures to ensure that the people are protected against the deadly virus.

Vaccination

As the people of Uganda are still observing the standard operating procedures to avoid contracting the virus for instance measures like ensuring that tourists and locals put on their face masks daily, maintaining social distance in public spaces, staying at home when they are sick among other safety measures. the government of Uganda also started its mass vaccination programmes of essential workers and people that at a high risk of contracting the virus.

The health minister of Uganda dr. Ruth Aceng issued a statement that the people that will be given access to the vaccine are the people that are at high risk of contracting the virus and these include; health workers that work in public and private health facilities because they get in contact with many people and since most of them will be caring for covid-19 patients, it makes them eligible for the vaccine, the teachers, security personnel, humanitarian frontline workers and people above  of ages of 18-50 years and people above 50 years with underlying health conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart, kidney, liver disease and also people between the age of 18-50 years of age with the same underlying conditions that are a threat to contracting the virus.

 For any person having to worry about the safety the vaccine is quite safe because the minister of health dr Ruth Aceng declared it safe and was also vaccinated against the virus and also his Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the president of Uganda as a way to see the efficacy of the virus and it should be noted that they received the 2 jab of covid-19 and they are fully vaccinated and because they didn’t have any complications it makes it safe for other people.
